A NOTE ON: CURRENT AFFAIRS:āā
ā"My operetta was written over the last two decades. It serves a purpose in today’s world, but especially now.
It is designed to expose the listener to an objective motive to internal change. I play the protagonist of a confrontational character, to unconfrontationally help people look to themselves.
It sides with the idea of the "Paper Gun" to finding a golden middle road instead of, when feeling derailed, veering to the darker sides of our psyche, and at worst a real gun.
The political spectrums of the left and the right are a metaphor for the heart and the head. The left sometimes needs to learn restraint, the right sometimes courage.
ā
Performance is always part of the writing process. I've tasted a freedom in the highest form of giving, in the curated pieces of my own work / of my own depths, which gets turned round in performance and alchemized. I do the same to the best of the world's artists in that I also turn or interpret where I hear it, a sort of a shared prayer."

Paul
“Paul builds anticipation in the crowd and develops a sense of mystery and curiosity to what type of show they will be witnessing.…. keeps the crowd on their toes and entertained at the same time.
The video opening sequence sets those premises immediately engaging the audience.
You can see audience members asking for details about the show in future, and how they are willing to spread the word, and saying things like “Nobody Leaves when you play”.
Ultimately asking Paul to sing some of his own songs, this showcases his ability to not only cover other artists successfully but is also talented enough to write and compose his own. It also establishes a foundations of a potential fan base willing to support. Knowing the audience wants to hear the performer's original songs is a very good sign that the performance and act is being received extremely well.”

Listening room audition review, Aug 2025
"Wow! This is as different a performance as anything I've seen in terms of the Listening Room Network! It's really more "performance art" than "musical performance"...as much poetry as it is music. He is clearly hugely creative in general, and his lyrics are poetic wonders. And, his piano playing is just exceptional!"ā

NEW SONGS

Someone asked me having seen “From a living grave" (above) how do I write the things I write, and this is the answer I gave them, it’s sort of a shared prayer:
ā“To answer your questions; So there’s an alchemy to live performance, it’s fascinating.
It’s because there’s something I think holy about song. Is holy the right word?
I did a Neil Diamond song called “Be” it’s a phenomenal song, and it’s about prayer.
But there’s an alchemy to perspective through expression – so I’ll have a poem written in the depths, but when you perform it, and you’re giving it to an audience, you’re careful for the audiences sake, you want to be honest for the audiences sake, but you also want to be able to inspire the audience, and actually yourself. It comes from above - so while I’m singing a song of a lyric that I have penned – I’m adjusting it as I’m singing it, as it’s being received, because while you’re being received, your desire to give is enhanced, and something happens; and the lyrics change from what you wrote in front of your eyes as it were. You sort of perceive them slightly ahead of the game and you look at it and go; I could change that and tweak this, and that’s a nicer thing to say, and that’s better, and that’s really clever, wow you can contextualize the whole song by taking the last lyric and making it upside down from the first lyric.
The song is kicked off with the inspired thought on one premise, and then in some ways the song writes itself. It doesn’t necessarily belong always to the one inspiration that it started with. Most amazing process! And that’s the answer to that question.”
It’s a freedom in the highest form of giving in the curated pieces of my own work, which gets turned round in performance and alchemized. And I do the same to the best of the world's artists that I also sometimes turn round!
Come once, one show, see the rig, see how it’s set up, see how refined it is, see the set, see how it runs, come and see it live. And how it’s designed also for constant improvement on all levels. The tiny equipment markers for speed of set up. Years of gaining understanding of what song goes well with what song, and all sorts of stuff.

My Path So Far
-
Began with piano only in shopping centers in Glasgow Scotland.
-
Then singing also in bespoke piano bars in Danish and Swiss ski resorts.
-
Then long residencies in two London West End hotel piano bars.
āāā
Now for almost a decade developing my concert act in the U.S. I have it where it pools from the decades of what has worked best for me.
I find great meaning in singing, playing piano and telling stories*, and always feel privileged to listen after the gigs to private confessionals from the people who tell me they don't have long to go, or who've been left behind by their loved ones, who just lost their spouse a few days before, who served in Vietnam and other wars, and all sorts of stories.
- all because at the piano I took them out of their own skin BH’.
ā
I have been doing this up and down the East coast from Florida to Connecticut,
and always get to exercise my own pieces, and have now developed and refined two unique shows. ā
ā
*from the Croatian mafia in London, to the story about the Malasian billionaire and his entourage,
and many more from my book; Life is grand, baby!
ā

I am set up for performance and travel anywhere without additional cost for accommodation
- I can be anywhere at short notice, totally flexible with location.

š TWO DISTINCT SHOWS:
Paul Tosh. Scottish crooner, songwriter,
improv pianist and looping artist.
...the song is the playā
Think The Boston Pops meets solo theatre. Paul performs in a way you’ve never seen—acting the lyrics like a scene from a play, and singing them with live, looping piano arrangements. It's music reimagined with storytelling.
Musical Style & Performances
Known for his dynamic and unpredictable performances, Paul offers two distinct shows:
ā
1. Original Operetta – Paper Gun: Described as “an exercise in expressing things you can never express (something must be done),” this piece delves into themes of vulnerability and emotional depth, inviting audiences into an intimate and reflective experience.
2. THE SONG IS THE PLAY: A theatrical tribute to the rich history of contributions to music, this show features classics from artists like Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Amy Winehouse, and Bob Dylan, presented with Paul Tosh’s unique flair.ā
ā
His performances are characterized by a fusion of conversation, humor, and musical prowess, often leaving audiences feeling as though they’ve been part of a "pre-WWII era artistic gathering."

Helloā
As a Piano Man I played across Europe, mostly Switzerland, Denmark, as well as London’s West End—performing four hours a night four nights a week for four years in Hyde Park and Regent Park hotels. That’s where I built a repertoire and honed a set and equipment approach.
Now based in the U.S., I spent the last six years bringing an intimate, story-driven concert to various 55+ communities, private homes and fund raisers—where I'm booked regulalrly.
The original content in my PAPER GUN
OPERETTA has been honed during these recent years, performed in the bookings for my show THE SONG IS THE PLAY, up and down the East Coast.
After my new PAPER GUN show I invariably stay and take requests Piano Bar style: with some Bob Dylan, Billy Joel Frank Sinatra, Beatles, and others. And sometimes stay and do THE SONG IS THE PLAY show in full the following night.āāāā
My original, one-of-a-kind operetta, PAPER GUN is performed with the same theatricality and musical intimacy as my show THE SONG IS THE PLAY.
āā
Always a different, but revolving around a theme of the path from illusion and pretense to integrity — to live authentically and with purpose.
